More Information About
Virat Kohli is an Indian right-handed top-order batsman who is widely regarded as one of the best batsmen of his generation. According to ESPN, Kohli is one of the most popular athletes in the world, and Forbes considers him to be one of the most valuable athlete brands. Kohli was named one of the world’s 100 most influential people by Time magazine in 2018. Kohli was ranked 66th on Forbes‘ list of the world’s top 100 highest-paid athletes in 2020, with approximate earnings of $26 million.
In the first match of the World Cup against Pakistan at Adelaide, Kohli hit 107 in 126 balls, sharing 100-plus partnerships with both Dhawan and Raina, to help India set a total of 300 and win the match by 76 runs. He was named man of the match for his innings, which was his 20th in ODIs and second in a World Cup match. Kohli also became the first Indian batsman to score a century against Pakistan in a World Cup match.
He played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League since 2008. Kohli batted 307 times for his team in 2010, averaging 27.90 and raising his strike rate to 144.81. Kohli was the only player retained by the Royal Challengers franchise ahead of the 2011 season.
Virat was named the team’s captain for the 2013 season after Vettori retired. Kohli’s Royal Challengers finished fifth in the league that year, but he was a batting champion. He ended the season as the third-highest run-scorer, averaging 45.28 and hitting 634 runs at a strike rate of over 138, including six fifties and a top score of 99.
Kohli’s brand value was measured at $56.4 million by American Appraisal in 2014, putting him fourth on the list of India’s most valuable celebrity brands. Kohli was ranked second most marketable athlete in the world behind only Lewis Hamilton by UK-based magazine SportsPro in the same year, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Usain Bolt. In 2017, he signed an eight-year sponsorship contract with Puma worth around 1.1 billion (US$15 million), making him the first Indian athlete to sign a deal worth 1 billion (US$14 million).
He was appointed Vivo‘s brand ambassador in April 2021, just before the IPL.
