More Information About
- He played Travis Younger in a production of A Raisin in the Sun when he was just 13 years old. The play was staged at Harlem’s Apollo Theatre to benefit Jesse Jackson‘s presidential campaign.
- He began his career in the entertainment industry in 1990 as a backup dancer for the alternative hip-hop group Digital Underground. Over time, he began to appear on their albums’ soundtracks.
- Keisha Morris, his ex-wife, claims he tried out for the part of Bubba in the original Forrest Gump film but was turned down.
- The producers of Poetic Justice insisted he gets tested for HIV before filming a steamy scene with Janet Jackson.
- He was arrested for a sexual assault on a hotel room maid in November of 1993. Ultimately, he was found guilty of the crime and sentenced to nine months in prison without the possibility of bail.
- Outlawz members reportedly smoked a mixture containing Tupac’s ashes and marijuana after his cremation.
- When he was 24, he shot and killed two off-duty police officers (one was shot in the buttocks, while the other was shot in the back, leg, or abdomen). After it was discovered that the officers were intoxicated, in possession of stolen weapons, and had lied to fellow police officers, all charges against them were dropped.
- He had a number of tattoos, including the phrase “Thug Words,” on his stomach.
- He changed the spelling of Niccol Machiavelli‘s name for his stage name, Makaveli, after becoming a huge fan of the Italian writer during his time in prison.
Other work
- In the lobby of a recording studio in New York City in November 1994, he was attacked by two masked men who shot him five times. He made it through, and he even brags about it in a few of his songs.
- After being arrested for jaywalking in Oakland, California, in October 1991, he filed a $10 million lawsuit against the police department, claiming that he was the victim of a brutal assault. The settlement finally arrived, but it was for a pitiful amount that barely covered his legal fees.
- Tupac’s legally registered pistol was used to shoot and kill 6-year-old Qa’id Walker-Teal in August 1992. While no formal charges were ever brought, his mother did sue him for wrongful death in 1995.
- In April 1993, he attempted to hit rapper Chauncey Wynn with a baseball bat and was later charged with felonious assault. The charges of felonious assault were dropped in exchange for his guilty plea to a lesser offense.
