He was purchased for 8.50 crores by Delhi Daredevils in the 2016 IPL auction, putting him ahead of stalwart Yuvraj Singh and making him the most expensive Indian player in the auction.
On March 3, 2016, he made his Twenty20 International debut for India against the United Arab Emirates at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in the 2016 Asia Cup. He was named to the Indian squad for the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup. Negi was purchased by Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2017 Indian Premier League in February 2017.
In the 2018 IPL auction, he was purchased by the Royal Challengers Bangalore. In April of this year, he was asked to bowl the game’s penultimate over against the Mumbai Indians. Hardik Pandya clobbered him for 23 runs, and he fell short. Negi was purchased by the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL auction in February 2021, ahead of the 2021 Indian Premier League.
