Nitish Rana is a left-handed batsman who also bowls off-spin. With 21 sixes in the 2015–16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he was the leading six-hitter, and he is said to have “big-hitting prowess.” Ricky Ponting, according to Rana, was instrumental in his development as a big-hitting batsman.
In the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy, Rana made his first-class debut, scoring 557 runs at an average of 50.63 and finishing as his team’s top run-getter. With 218 runs, he was his team’s second-highest run-scorer in the 2015–16 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
He was released by Mumbai Indians in 2014 for the Indian Premier League 2014 and he played for Mumbai Indians until 2017. In 2018, Rana was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for the Indian Premier League. He was again purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders in the action of the 2021 Indian Premier League.
He was investigated for his role in age-fudging ahead of the 2020 IPL season. If the allegations were found to be true, KKR would have lost Nitish Rana’s services for the IPL 2020 season. Nitish Rana was one of 22 players suspended by the BCCI in 2015 for the same reason, and although he is ineligible for age group cricket, he is unlikely to be banned from senior cricket.
