More Information About
Mohammed Shami is known as a reverse swing specialist. Shami made his first-class debut in 2010, taking three wickets against Assam. He was selected for the West Indies-bound India A squad in 2012 as a result of his strong success in the domestic season. During India A’s unofficial Test match against West Indies A in June 2012, he and Cheteshwar Pujara shared a match-winning partnership of 73 runs for the 10th wicket.
Shami debuted for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2013. He was signed by the Delhi Daredevils for the 2014 season, but only played in a few games. In 2015, he was re-signed by the club, but he did not appear in a game until the next season, when he became a regular in the lineup. Kings XI Punjab purchased him in the player auction ahead of the 2019 season in December 2018.
He was named to India’s squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup in April 2019. Shami scored a hat-trick in a match against Afghanistan on June 22, 2019. After Chetan Sharma, he became the second Indian bowler to say a hat-trick in a World Cup match. He became the ninth player in Cricket World Cup history to score a hat-trick. Shami took his first five-wicket haul in ODIs on June 30, 2019, against England.
Shami’s wife filed a First Information Report (FIR) against him and his relatives on March 9, 2018, alleging domestic abuse and adultery. Shami was also charged with attempted murder, rape, and adultery, all of which his wife, Hasin Jahan, alleged. Hasin also said that the bowler was involved in match fixing.
As a result of the allegations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) removed Shami from their list of national contracts. Shami’s central contract was cleared by the BCCI on March 22, 2018, after the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) cleared him of corruption charges.
