Moeen Ali is an English professional cricket player. He played county cricket for Warwickshire before moving to Worcestershire after the 2006 season. He won Warwickshire’s NBC Denis Compton Award in both 2004 and 2005 and Worcestershire’s NBC Denis Compton Award in 2009. He started his international career in the English Squad for the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh. Ali made his ODI debut against the West Indies in 2014. In the second match, he made ten runs and took figures of 1–11. Ali was again impressive in the third match, making his first half-century in a score of 55. He made his T20 debut in the second match of the T20 series against the West Indies on 11 March 2014.
In September 2020, he had become the first Asian-origin cricketer to have captained England in a T20 International match. A valuable spin-bowling allrounder, he has been featured in franchise-based T20 leagues around the world, turning out for Royal Challengers Bangalore (2018-2020) and Chennai Super Kings (2021-Present) in the IPL (Indian Premier League); Duronto Rajshahi (now known as Rajshahi Royals) (2012-13) in the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League); Cape Town Blitz (2019) in the MSL (Mzansi Super League); and Multan Sultans (2020) in the PSL (Pakistan Super League).
Ali tested positive for COVID-19 prior to England’s tour of Sri Lanka and he recovered on 4 January 2021.
