More Information About
KL Rahul is a right-handed batsman and a wicket-keeper. He made his international debut in 2014, and in his second Test match, he scored his first Test century. He was the third Indian to score a century in all three forms of international cricket, and the first to score a century on his One Day International debut. In the 2010–11 season, Rahul made his first-class cricket debut for Karnataka. In the same season, he competed in the 2010 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup for his country, scoring a total of 143 runs.
In the 2014 Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Rahul made his Test debut. MS Dhoni presented him with his Test cap after he replaced Rohit Sharma. He batted at number six in the first innings and scored three runs; he batted at number three in the second innings and scored only one run, but he was retained for the next Test at Sydney, where he opened the innings with Murali Vijay and scored 110 runs, his maiden international century.
Rahul made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in 2013 as a wicket-keeper batsman for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He was purchased by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 1 crore ahead of the 2014 IPL season, before returning to RCB for the 2016 IPL season. With 397 runs from 14 matches, he finished the season as the 11th highest run-scorer in the league and RCB’s seventh. He was appointed wicket keeper in the Cricinfo and Cricbuzz IPL XI for his performances during the 2016 IPL season. Due to a shoulder injury, Rahul was forced to miss the 2017 season.
Kings XI Punjab paid INR 11 crore for him in the 2018 IPL Auction, which was the joint-third highest amount. He scored the fastest 50 in IPL history in the team’s first match of the season, taking 14 balls to cross the milestone and breaking Sunil Narine‘s record.
Kings XI Punjab paid INR 11 crore for him in the 2018 IPL Auction, making him the joint-third most expensive player. He broke Sunil Narine’s record for the fastest 50 in IPL history in the team’s first match of the season, taking 14 balls to cross the milestone. After former captain Ravichandran Ashwin was traded to Delhi Capitals, Rahul was appointed captain of the Kings XI Punjab for the 2020 IPL. He was retained by the Punjab Kings ahead of the 2021 IPL season.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended Hardik Pandya and K. L. Rahul on January 11, 2019, following controversial remarks they made earlier in the month on the Indian talk show Koffee with Karan. They were both sent home ahead of India’s ODI series against Australia and the tour’s New Zealand fixtures. The BCCI announced on January 24, 2019, that Rahul will re-join the India A squad after the suspensions for Pandya and Rahul were lifted.
