More Information About
Jonny Bairstow set a new record for the most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in a calendar year (70) in 2016. He also set a record for most Test runs by a wicket-keeper in a single year in the same year. Bairstow nearly doubled the previous record for England wicket-keepers, which was set by Matt Prior in 2012, with 1,470 runs in Tests, and easily surpassed the previous record for any Test nation, which was held by former Zimbabwe wicket-keeper Andy Flower, with 1,045 runs. He is the first cricketer from England to score three one-day international hundreds in a row.
Bairstow was a part of England’s ODI squad for the August 2011 match against Ireland, but he was not selected to play. After being called up for the final ODI against India the following month, he made his debut. He scored an unbeaten 41 off just 21 balls as a specialist batsman to help England cross a Duckworth-Lewis adjusted number. He was called Man of the Match for his innings, which included three sixes, the first of which came off the fifth ball he faced.
In the player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League, he was purchased by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in December 2018. Bairstow made his IPL debut for SRH against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 24, 2019, scoring 39 off 35 balls as an opener but ultimately losing the match. In the first SRH home game, Bairstow continued to impress with a match-winning 45 off 28 balls against Rajasthan Royals in a high-scoring affair. He also served as the team’s wicket keeper. Bairstow became the first keeper-batsman to score a century Sunrisers Hyderabad when he scored 114 (56) against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 31, 2019. Bairstow scored 445 runs in 10 games for the SRH, averaging 55.62 runs per game.
Bairstow was re-signed by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in December 2019 for the 2020 Indian Premier League season. The Sunrisers Hyderabad again signed him for the 2021 Indian Premier League season.
