Isuru Udana primarily a left-arm fast bowler. During the Sri Lanka A team’s tour of South Africa in August and September 2008, Udana made his first-class and List A cricket debuts.
Udana was named to the Sri Lankan World Twenty20 squad in 2009. On June 8, 2009, he made his Twenty20 international debut against Australia. He appeared in five of Sri Lanka’s seven games in the tournament, including the team’s loss to Pakistan in the final.
Udana was given the opportunity to play in a Twenty20 International series against New Zealand in 2016 after a long absence from the international stage. The comeback began with a bang in the second T20I when Thisara Perera dropped a simple catch by Martin Guptill on Udana’s bowling. Since then, Udana has been hammered by New Zealanders, allowing 34 runs in three overs as New Zealand won the match by nine wickets in the tenth over.
Sri Lanka Cricket awarded him a national contract in May 2018, making him one of 33 cricketers to receive one ahead of the 2018–19 season.
He was purchased for 50 lakh (US$70,000) in the 2020 IPL auction by the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the Indian Premier League. He was drafted by the Colombo Kings for the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League in October 2020. He was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore prior to the 2021 Indian Premier League.
