More Information About

Glenn Maxwell is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off-break bowler. In 2010, he made his professional cricket debut for Victoria in the Twenty20 Big Bash. In the short form of the game, he is known for his dramatic shot-making and improvisation, scoring 102 from 52 balls against Sri Lanka in the 2015 World Cup, the second-fastest World Cup century to date. In 2016, he also hit an unbeaten 145* from 65 balls against Sri Lanka, which was the fourth-highest Twenty20 International run. In 2011, he scored 50 runs in 19 balls to set the record for the fastest half-century in Australian domestic one-day cricket.

In a one-off One Day International in the United Arab Emirates in 2012, Maxwell made his ODI debut for Australia against Afghanistan. He had two goals and a total of 0-21. He hit 38 off 38 balls in his second ODI against Pakistan, helping Australia come back from a 5-121 deficit to win. In the second ODI, he followed it up with 28 off 27 balls and 0-37 off 4 overs, but on a losing note. He scored an unbeaten 56 in the third One-Day International, including a six, to secure Australia’s victory; he also took 0-33.

Then Maxwell played the same tour in two T20I matches with Pakistan. He made his debut with a four-point performance and a 0-25 bowling performance. He scored 27 off 20 balls and took 1-12 in the third T20I. In March 2013, in the second test at Hyderabad, he made his test debut against India. He was the second spinner to support Xavier Doherty. The first and second inputs did not impress Maxwell with the bat, which was 13 and 8, but took 4/127.

For Delhi Daredevils, Maxwell first signed in 2012 as a substitute for Travis Birt. In the 2012 competition, Maxwell played two games. Maxwell was the costliest player at the 2013 IPL auction when he was bought by Indians from Mumbai for US$1 million. Kings XI Punjab acquired it in 2014. In the opening game of his team against Chennai Super Kings, 95 rounds were scored out of 43 balls and 89 of the 45 balls were scored in the second game against Rajasthan Royals. In the third game, Maxwell scored 95 runs out of 43 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad. For the third consecutive time, he won the Player of Match prize. Later in the season, he won also the Player of the Match award for Chennai 90 runes out of 38 balls. He had the 3rd highest total of runs of the season in 16 games with 552 runs with an average of 34.50 runs.

Maxwell was the target of a bidding war between Delhi and Kings XI in the 2020 IPL auction, before being purchased by Kings for 107.5 million INR, the second most expensive buy of the auction. After another bidding war, this time with Chennai, Royal Challengers Bangalore bought Maxwell for 142.5 million INR in 2021. He was the auction’s third most expensive match.
