Gerald Coetzee made his List A debut for Free State in the 2018–19 CSA Provincial on October 14, 2018. One-Day Challenge. He was named in South Africa’s squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup before making his List A debut. He was named to the South African national under-19 cricket team’s squad in January 2019, ahead of their tour to India.
On October 7, 2019, he made his first-class debut for the Knights in the 2019–20 CSA 4-Day Franchise Series. He was appointed to South Africa’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup squad in December 2019. He was appointed to the Free State squad in April 2021, ahead of the South African cricket season 2021–22.
During the 2021 Indian Premier League, he was signed by the Rajasthan Royals as a replacement for Liam Livingstone on May 1, 2021.
