More Information About
Boone is best known for exploring and settling what is now Kentucky. Which was then beyond the Thirteen Colonies’ western limits. Despite opposition from American Indians who used Kentucky as a hunting area. Boone carved the Wilderness Road through the Cumberland Gap and into Kentucky in 1775. Boonesborough, one of the first English-speaking communities west of the Appalachian Mountains, was founded there by him. More than 200,000 people had entered Kentucky by following Boone’s route by the end of the 18th century.
Boone is a well-known, if misunderstood, figure in American history. In his own lifetime, he was a legend. Particularly after an account of his exploits was published in 1784. Making him famous in both America and Europe. Boone became the focus of many heroic tall tales and works of fiction after his death. His real and legendary exploits aided in the creation of the quintessential American frontier hero. Even though mythology often overshadows the historical details of Boone’s life. He is remembered as one of the leading early frontiersmen in American popular culture.
