More Information About

AB De Villiers is known for a variety of unorthodox shots, especially behind the wicket-keeper, and is regarded as one of the most creative and destructive batsmen of the modern period, as well as one of the greatest of all time.

In 2004, he made his international debut in a Test match against England, and in early 2005, he played his first One Day International (ODI). In 2006, he made his Twenty20 International debut. In both Test and ODI cricket, he scored over 8,000 runs and is one of the few batsmen to have a batting average of over fifty in both formats. In just 31 balls, he set the record for the fastest ODI century. He also holds the ODI 50 and 150-time records. In World Cups, he has a healthy average of 63.52.

De Villiers scored a match-winning century in the first Test in Perth, helping South Africa chase down the second-highest-ever fourth-innings target of 414 with six wickets in hand. After more than a decade of Australian domination, this was South Africa’s first Test win in Australia in 15 years, and it seemed to go a long way toward tipping the balance of power in world cricket. De Villiers also took four diving catches in the match, including one at backward point to dismiss Jason Krejza.

De Villiers scored the fastest fifty and century by a batsman in  One Day International cricket on January 18, 2015, off 16 and 31 balls, respectively, and went on to score 149 runs off 44 balls in 59.5 minutes against the West Indies.

During the 2015 Cricket World Cup, De Villiers was one of the top performers, scoring 482 runs at an average of 96.0 and a strike rate of 144.0.

He’s known as “Mr. 360” because of his ability to play shots all over the wicket, and “Superman” because of his acrobatic fielding. He is regarded as an attacking batsman who uses a variety of unorthodox shots in T20 cricket.

De Villiers proposed to Danielle Swart, his girlfriend of five years, at the Taj Mahal in 2012. On March 30, 2013, the couple married in Bela-Bela, South Africa. They have a daughter and two sons.
