More Information About

O’Leary joined the Genstar Capital advisory board in March 2007, a private equity firm that invests in healthcare services, industrial technologies, business services, and software. O’Leary was named to Genstar Capital’s Strategic Advisory Board to help the company find fresh investment possibilities for its $1.2 billion fund.

O’Leary Funds Inc., a mutual fund focused on worldwide yield investment, was co-founded by O’Leary in 2008. His brother Shane O’Leary is a director and acts as the company’s chairman and principal investor. In 2012, the fund’s assets under management increased from $400 million to $1.2-billion. Stanton Asset Management, a firm run by husband-and-wife team Connor O’Brien and Louise Ann Poirier, was the fund’s primary manager.

O’Leary Ventures, a private early-stage venture capital investment firm, O’Leary Mortgages, O’Leary books, and O’Leary Fine Wines are among the companies he created. O’Leary Mortgages ceased operations in April 2014. O’Leary’s funds have a shady history, with reports that they have dropped more than 20% in a year, which is a huge blow to fund managers. O’Leary is no longer in charge of outside funds.

In 2008, O’Leary co-hosted Discovery Project Earth on the Discovery Channel, a show that looks at creative methods to combat climate change.

Politics

In January 2016, O’Leary offered to invest $1 million in Alberta’s economy in exchange for Premier Rachel Notley’s resignation, and in late February 2016, he appeared with four other potential leadership candidates at a federal Conservatives conference, where he gave a presentation titled “If I Run, This is How.”

He prophesied that the Liberal government would fall within four years of the economy collapsing during his address.
