Jason Roy is a right handed batsman and a right arm medium  bowler. He was a member of England’s World Cup-winning squad in 2019, and he holds the record for the highest individual One Day International (ODI) innings by an England batsman.

In the 2017 IPL, he appeared in three games for Gujarat Lions. He played for the Delhi Daredevils in the 2018 IPL, scoring a match-winning 91* in his first match. He was purchased by the Delhi Capitals in the 2020 IPL auction ahead of the Indian Premier League. Due to personal reasons, Roy opted out of the 2020 Indian Premier League on August 27, 2020, and was replaced by Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams. Before the 2021 auction, he was released by the Delhi Capitals. He was signed by the Sunrisers Hyderabad as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh ahead of the 2021 Indian Premier League season.

He was named to the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants‘ squad as an International Marquee player for the inaugural Mzansi Super League T20 tournament in October 2018. He was named to the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants squad for the 2019 Mzansi Super League tournament in September 2019.

International Records

  • In 2016, Roy was part of a 256-run opening partnership with Alex Hales against Sri Lanka, which was the highest effective run chase in one-day internationals without losing a wicket. It’s also England’s highest partnership for any wicket in ODIs.
  • In an ODI against Australia on 14 January 2018 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Roy scored 180 (off 151 balls) and partnered with Joe Root for the highest ever third-wicket partnership for England (to date), with 221 runs off 220 balls.
