Wriddhiman Saha became the first Indian wicket-keeper to score centuries in the home as well as outside Asia. He is also the first cricketer to score a century in an Indian Premier League final. In the 2007–08 Ranji Trophy, Saha made his first-class debut, scoring 111 not out against Hyderabad. In the 2007–08 season, Saha was also a member of the East Zone team in the Duleep Trophy.

In the first three seasons of the IPL, Saha played for Kolkata Knight Riders, but in 2011, he was selected by Chennai Super Kings as a backup wicketkeeper for MS Dhoni. In 2012 and 2013, he also played for the Chennai Super Kings. Kings XI Punjab bought Saha as a specialist wicketkeeper in the 2014 IPL Auction. Saha not only took some great catches during the tournament, but he also contributed with his bat. He batted 362 times for an average of 32.90 and a 145.38 strike rate.

With an unbeaten 115 runs from 55 balls in the IPL Final against Kolkata Knight Riders, Saha became the first player to score a century in an IPL final, including 10 fours and eight sixes.

In the player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League, he was purchased by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in December 2018. He only played four matches in the 2020 season, scoring 214 runs with a 70+ average, including two brilliant half centuries as the Sunrisers Hyderabad opener.

Saha tested positive for COVID-19 on 4 May 2021.
